Tektronix, Inc. , a worldwide provider of communications network management and diagnostics products, announced the availability of NetGuide software for the market-leading handheld NetTek Base Station Tester. NetGuide provides the ability to create customized procedural test scripts that are executed in a single, handheld form factor, enabling branches of the same company to standardize on a methodology that decreases testing and troubleshooting time and improves network quality. NetGuide is the first software of its kind for any handheld base station tester.
Technicians now have to test more cells, understand more technologies and implement new test routines to successfully keep wireless networks up and running. NetGuide enables field maintenance personnel to develop automated measurement routines that can be shared across an operator's market or region. These routines encapsulate expert knowledge that will reduce the time and errors incurred from manual tests and guide technicians throughout the test session. This allows technicians to test and troubleshoot more base stations and antennas in a consistent and repeatable manner.
"As network operators transition from 2G to 3G networks, they are challenged to deal with considerably more complex technologies than in the past that require a higher level of attention to maintain and optimize," said Arif Kareem, Vice President, Diagnostics, Tektronix. "NetGuide enhances the ability of technicians to quickly troubleshoot, locate and resolve complex base transceiver station (BTS) problems, enabling more efficiency and greater productivity in their daily jobs."
Measurement routines can be created and edited using the NetGuide Editor, a software application that runs on the Windows operating system. Once created, the routines can be distributed to field personnel and used on the NetTek Base Station Tester through the NetGuide Player to ensure reliable testing methodologies and quick, accurate and repeatable results.
Display setup wizards guide technicians on how to hook up the BTS, antenna, cables and test equipment. Once the desired test procedure has been selected, NetGuide Player runs all measurements and compares results with company-established limits and criteria. NetGuide provides technicians with expert help to aid in interpretation along with recommended actions to be taken. When the procedure is completed, NetGuide generates a report that can be imported into customer specific software for tracking cells trends.
For a limited time, users will receive the NetGuide software free of charge by contacting a local Tektronix representative. The NetGuide Editor will also be available for download at the end of April 2006.
About The NetTek BTS Field Tool
The NetTek Analyzer is a rugged portable platform with multi-standard measurement capability. The NetTek fills the gap between expensive, full-compliance testing tools and low-cost instruments designed to perform only one measurement. The instrument's modular architecture supports a range of base transceiver station transmitter measurements for standards including UMTS/WCDMA, EDGE, GSM, CDMA2000 1x EV-DO, CDMA2000, cdmaOne (IS-95), and IS-136. The instrument's Windows-based user interface simplifies operation and minimizes training needs. The compact battery-powered tool, which weighs just over 12 lbs (4 kg), is lightweight and rugged for transport to remote sites.
