Tektronix, Inc. , a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation announced a new family of multi-format waveform monitors that enable customers to achieve the quality levels they require for video production, distribution and broadcasting. The new WFM6100, WFM7000 and WFM7100 waveform monitors offer industry-leading performance, reliability and flexibility to help video professionals produce and deliver high quality video and audio content for mixed-format systems in the emerging digital era.
The transition from analog to digital video has created new business and technical requirements for video and audio monitoring solutions. Customers need to manage more complex and rapidly changing technologies. They are looking for highly-capable, cost-effective, easy-to-use waveform monitoring solutions that help them take full advantage of the emerging higher performance digital technologies while maintaining their revenue-generating analog systems. With the new WFM6100 and the WFM7000 Series, customers purchase only the monitoring and measurement capabilities they currently need and can later upgrade the instruments to meet new requirements. These new products offer customers the widest range of product configurations and upgrades, and industry-first capabilities that enable the seamless migration from composite video configurations to complete HD/SD/composite solutions. Furthermore, the WFM6100 and the WFM7000 Series provide all new troubleshooting and monitoring abilities to solve problems across multiple formats and even remote sites.
"With the addition of the WFM6100 and the WFM7000 Series waveform monitors, Tektronix provides industry best capabilities for monitoring and measuring digital video and audio and the widest range of product configurations in an upgradeable platform," said Todd Biddle, VP, Video Product Line, Tektronix. "These waveform monitors offer unparalleled performance and flexibility, making them the preferred solution for maintaining hybrid video production, distribution and broadcast systems through the transition from analog to digital video and audio technologies."
The WFM6100 and the WFM7000 Series: Flexible, Robust Waveform Monitors
The three new multi-format waveform monitors allow customers to select the exact configuration that best supports their business needs. The SD-capable WFM6100 Multi-format Waveform Monitor offers high performance monitoring and measurement capabilities for systems using composite analog video and SD digital video formats. The HD-capable WFM7000 and WFM7100 Multi-format Waveform Monitors help customer manage hybrid HD/SD/composite video systems. The WFM7000 addresses basic monitoring needs, while the WFM7100 has additional capabilities for high-performance monitoring and measurement. Available options include support for monitoring digital audio, both embedded and discreet AES/EBU inputs, and analog audio formats. The WFM6100 and WFM7100 also offer options for Dolby® audio monitoring, high-performance SDI signal measurement and in-depth digital data analysis. All units provide an integrated high-resolution XGA display.
Fast and Efficient Content Monitoring, Editing and Problem Diagnosis
The industry-leading combination of monitoring and measurement capabilities and unique user interface capabilities in the new WFM6100, WFM7000 and WFM7100 Multi-format Waveform Monitors allow smaller production, operations and engineering staffs to efficiently monitor more content. The WFM6100 and the WFM7000 Series reduce time and effort in equipment setup and more rapidly detect and diagnose problems before they become customer complaints.
The WFM6100 and the WFM7000 Series waveform monitors offer the new MyMenu feature that allows users to place their most frequently used functions in a single on-screen menu. MyMenu enables a customer to create a menu tailored to the needs of an organization or an individual. This streamlines instrument operation by giving users fast and easy access to their most valued functions.
The CaptureVu™ capability, new to the WFM6100 and WFM7100, can capture an entire frame of video data, either user-initiated or automatically, on the occurrence of a trigger event such as gamut alarms. Unlike a "freeze display" which captures only the on-screen data, CaptureVu allows users to view the captured data in one kind of display (e.g., a waveform display) and compare it to a live signal, then change to a different display (e.g., a picture or a gamut display) and make the same live-to-capture comparison. CaptureVu enables engineers to more quickly determine the cause of intermittent problems and diagnose problems at remote, un-staffed sites.
All models offer the Tektronix 4-tile FlexVu™ customizable display. FlexVu enables customers to create hundreds of custom multiple-view screens tailored to their specific work practices. Unlike products that offer limited configuration choices or pre-set multi-view displays, FlexVu allows customers to create the 4-tile displays that best suits their needs.
All models also feature a convenient front-panel USB port for saving and restoring settings or captured data. This capability increases efficiency and reliability in placing an instrument into a desired configuration, and reduces the time and effort needed to acquire data for documentation or later analysis.
The new Tektronix multi-format waveform monitors offer extensive fault detection and alarm generation capability; specialized displays for precision content editing and thorough quality verification; unique status reporting and logging capability; broad support for monitoring ancillary data, including closed caption decode and exceptional audio monitoring capabilities. For video system installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting, all models offer the patented Timing Display. The WFM6100 and WFM7100 also provide high-performance Eye-diagram displays, jitter measurements and SDI signal analysis, and in-depth analysis of video, embedded audio and other ancillary data.
