Tektronix, Inc. , a worldwide provider of communications network management and diagnostics solutions, announced that Vodafone Germany, the country's leading mobile telecommunications carrier, has chosen GeoProbe and Advanced Performance Monitoring (APM) from the Tektronix Unified Assurance (UA) suite for its network-wide, real-time GPRS and UMTS monitoring system.
Vodafone's GPRS & UMTS Surveillance System (G&USS) enables the carrier to deliver enhanced customer service and reduce operational costs by providing end-to-end performance monitoring and troubleshooting capabilities. These include comprehensive statistical tools for the identification and rectification of service degradations and failures in real-time. Furthermore, the Tektronix solution, which is now fully operational across the German Vodafone network, has been completely integrated into the carrier's OSS and Service Management infrastructure.
The G&USS monitoring system collects, analyzes and reports on the signaling plane and bearer packets enabling faster time to problem resolution. Key performance indicators (KPIs) and key quality indicators (KQIs) generated from the data collected on the network indicate the health of monitored nodes and application servers. From here, Vodafone network operations personnel can drill down to specific call records or events to further analyze problems. In addition, the Tektronix solution provides engineering and planning personnel with the information they need for the strategic planning of network capacity growth and optimization.
"Real-time, end-to-end surveillance of our GPRS and UMTS infrastructure is an essential element in delivering optimal service quality to our customers," said Joerg Frankenberger, Head of Network Management Engineering, Vodafone Germany. "The Tektronix Unified Assurance suite has allowed us to roll out a solution that provides all of the necessary surveillance and troubleshooting capabilities and integrates fully into the Vodafone D2's OSS and Service Management infrastructure."
"We have worked closely with Vodafone Germany to ensure the success of the G&USS project," said Doug Dickerson, Vice President and General Manager, Network Management, Tektronix. "The Vodafone implementation clearly demonstrates how the Tektronix Unified Assurance platform can provide end-to-end network and service monitoring independent of network infrastructure and underlying technologies."
