HEVC, 4K Analysis and Monitoring Tools Take Center Stage at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2015
Tektronix Demonstrates Comprehensive Solution for H.265/HEVC Transport Stream QC; New Release of Aurora with Real-Time 4K Content Analysis

NEW ORLEANS, Oct. 13, 2015 – Tektronix, an industry-leading innovator of video quality monitoring solutions, is demonstrating how it can help cable operators meet tough challenges such as 4K content distribution and FCC rules compliance here at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo 2015 event, Oct. 13-15, in booth #1527. On display for the first time at an industry event is the latest release of the industry’s fastest and most scalable automated file-based QC solution, Aurora 6.0.

With the momentum around 4K content and services continuing to build, a key focus for cable operators will be on ensuring the quality of premium 4K content. One of the more demanding challenges will be implementing the new, more efficient H.265/HEVC compression scheme while maintaining quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) levels.

At SCTE, Tektronix is showcasing its entire portfolio of 4K-capable video network monitoring solutions including Sentry, Medius, Consul, Sentry ABR, Sentry Verify and Sentry Edge/Edge2 that together deliver complete end-to-end, real-time monitoring across an entire channel line-up. Sentry now includes HEVC support including both QoE measurements on H.265/HEVC transport stream payloads and perceptual video quality (PVQ) measurements on H.265/HEVC content.

Cable operators must process massive – and growing – volumes of incoming content while ensuring the correctness and quality of the media files. With the launch of Aurora and Hydra Player earlier this year, Tektronix helps meet this challenge with a best-in-class solution for automated file-based quality control. Aurora and Hydra enable real-time 4K QC analysis and playback while Aurora 6.0 is capable of testing 4K in any container or codec.

SCTE Cable-Tec Expo attendees moving to HEVC in the coming year will also want to catch a demonstration of the MTS4EAV7 HEVC/AVC video and compressed audio analyzer. MTS4EAV7 offers the industry’s deepest and most thorough HEVC analysis and visualization capabilities while also offering support for all other codecs.

Closed Caption and Audio Loudness Compliance

Under new FCC guidelines released in March 2015, cable operators must meet standards for television closed captioning for accuracy, synchronicity, completeness and placement. In addition, the FCC has imposed new requirements around record keeping and handling viewer complaints.

To help operators meet these requirements, Sentry provides an interactive display to quickly show if a program is experiencing closed caption presence or error issues, along with codes to describe the type of error. Sentry also provides 60 days of statistics, reports and exception based alerting for both closed captions and audio loudness. Another useful tool that will be in the Tektronix booth at SCTE is the WFM5250, a portable and fast waveform monitoring solution that features simultaneous CEA708/608 closed caption monitoring and audio loudness monitoring to ITU-R BS.1770-3/1771, EBU R 128, and ATSC A/85 recommendations.

With Aurora 6.0, the AutoFix solution that includes audio correction capabilities is now embedded within Aurora for increased productivity.

Cost-Effective RF Signal Analysis

Many operators need the ability to troubleshoot and debug RF networks and equipment. The highly portable and rugged RSA306 Real-Time Spectrum Analyzer can handle everything from benchtop analysis to intensive field application. The RSA306 is powered and controlled through a USB 3.0 connection to a laptop or PC, enabling its compact form factor and affordable pricing – about half the cost of a traditional spectrum analyzer.

Operated by SCTE and its global brand, the International Society of Broadband Experts (ISBE), SCTE Cable-Tec Expo is the leading venue for helping the cable telecommunications industry and its workforce to reduce costs, deploy new services and increase customer satisfaction.
