NEW ORLEANS – October 20, 2010 – At Cable-Tec Expo 2010, Tektronix, the leading provider of digital content monitoring solutions, today announced significant enhancements to the company’s award-winning Sentry® digital content monitor making it the only scalable solution that detects video and audio errors in digital programs while generating metrics that correlate to mean opinion scores (MOS). The key to delivering this new video artifact measurement and detection capability through Sentry was the development of a unique set of algorithms that are calibrated against the Tektronix PQA600 Picture Quality Analyzer. The PQA600 utilizes unique expertise from Tektronix based on the human vision model. The company is leveraging this expertise in a revolutionary way for service providers, while maintaining Sentry’s ability to perform real time monitoring of hundreds of programs simultaneously
Through a software upgrade, service providers can take advantage of artifact detection as an addition to Sentry’s QoE scoring capability with reason codes and its new MOS scoring capabilities. These metrics can be used to compare and track the qualitative performance of audio and video programs throughout the video network, enabling them to identify where degradations in quality are occurring. For example, an operator can use Sentry to generate scores on incoming feeds at the headend prior to multiplexing, which gives operators a baseline score for each program. After the programs are multiplexed, another Sentry can generate MOS and QoE scores of the resulting channel line-up to determine if the video or audio quality has been affected. This scoring process can be conducted at all recommended monitoring points in the network to provide an overview of the health of each program.
“The addition of video artifact detection capabilities is revolutionary because of the number of programs Sentry can apply this technology to simultaneously,” said Eric Conley, vice president, Video Network Monitoring, Tektronix. “We’re excited about the value this unique capability brings to our customers.”
The award-winning Sentry family is the industry’s premier content monitoring solution and is available worldwide. Sentry is proven in deployments with nine of the top 10 U.S. cable operators and three of the top five Canadian operators
Tektronix will demonstrate Sentry and other solutions for service providers in its booths #2127 and #2227 at the upcoming Cable-Tec Expo in New Orleans, October 20-22, 2010.
